Videos Showing you how to Swing Different Golf Clubs

I have told you some of the fundamentals of a golf swing.  If you are using a Fairway Wood or Driver you need to have the ball aligned with the heel of your left foot if you are right handed.  If you are left handed, then you align the ball with the heel of your right foot.  Make sure when you start your back swing that your weight is on the back foot and the club is at its highest point, then you swing down and shift your weight to the front foot.  Always keep your head down and your body in the right position.  Here is a link for a video I created to show you how to swing a Fairway Wood.  It will tak you to Youtbue.com.

There is a slightly different swing to the first one I talked about and that is swinging an Iron.  When you swing an Iron, it is the same except for one thing.  The ball should be in the middle of your stance and you should also make note of the fact that with a 3,4,5 and 6 Iron you never make a divit with the club.  Here is a video of me with a three Iron to show you this swing.  The link will also take you to Youtube.com.

There is one more swing and it sets up like an Iron shot, which is a Pitching Wedge.  The one big difference is that you do not swing all the way back and you will hold the club straight up and down then swing.  Here is one more video that will show you this swing on Youtube.com.

I hope these videos will help you to get started and make you want to play the game everyday.  Stay tuned for more blogs about golf.

How to Approach a Golf Swing

I said in my other post that swinging a golf club may look easy, but it is not.  I do not say this to discourage you, but to inform you there are fundamentals in everything you do and golf is no different.  As long as you follow these steps, you should be able to swing a golf club and hit the ball far.

Any time you go to the golf course you should stretch and warm up first.  This is important because you need to feel relaxed and confident when you play your first round.  So I can get a fell for how fast or slow the greens are.  I practice putting on the courses practice green.  I always make sure I go to the driving range before my round to practice my golf swing.

The first thing you must do is wear proper golf atire and you do not have to dress up unless the course has specific dress code.  What I mean by dress up is wearing a polo shirt and dress pants or shorts.  Always stand behind the ball first and pick a spot where you want the ball to go.  Then take a couple of practice swings before you hit the ball.  Depending on what club you are using, make sure you stand appropriately.  If it is a Fairway Wood or Driver you have your left or right foot turned out just a little bit and make sure your heel is lined up with the ball.  Make a note that if you're right handed the left foot will be aligned with the ball and if you're left handed the right foot will be alligned with the ball.  Just make sure you bend your knees a little bit and swing backwards.  Always keep your head down as you swing.  By this point your club should be at the top of your swing and your weight will now shift from your back foot to your front foot and the finished pose should look like the third picture on the blog.  If it is an Iron you are swinging with, you have the ball lined up in the middle of your stance.  I must remind you to keep your head down and the wedges are the only clubs that does not go all the way back on the swing.  When you get to the top of this swing the club should be vertical.  These are pictures of how to apporach a golf swing and what it should look like.  Stay tuned for my next blog where you will get to see videos of me swinging a golf club.

Why Golf is a Fun Sport to Play

Golf is very easy to learn and fun to play. All you need is to give it a shot and try it out for your self. The one thing about golf that I have always liked is the fact that when you go to a driving range for the first time you will most likely miss the ball. I will admit to you that when I first tried out golf, I missed the ball completely, but instantly I was hooked. The thing that had me hooked was the fact that it seems like the most easiest thing to do is swing the club and send the ball flying, but without proper technique and practice you will get discouraged.

This blog is designed to help you learn tips and proper techniques to be a good golfer.  There will also be blogs on some of the rules that you must follow to play a round of golf. The rules are designed to teach you integrity and to teach you fair play. Also, rules help you have proper etiquette on the golf course. There is behavior that is not acceptable on a golf course. I have seen some bad behaviors out there when I have played. This blog hopefully be beneficial for you and friends to learn how to play the game. Don’t forget you can always find golf pros at courses to learn from.  You can also learn from a friend who plays as well.  However long you play golf, you can always learn something new that you did not know and that is the greatest thing about this game. Plus, on a nice day it is fun to just get out there and enjoy the great scenery the golf course has to offer.

I have traveled to some different courses, but some of the best ones I found were in the state of Kansas. Here is a Google map to show you some of the golf courses that are in Kansas. The websites of the courses can give you more information of how much it would cost to play at them or if you would just like to know events that they are hosting. There are some courses that require memberships, so make sure you check on that before you go to a course.
