How to Approach a Golf Swing

I said in my other post that swinging a golf club may look easy, but it is not.  I do not say this to discourage you, but to inform you there are fundamentals in everything you do and golf is no different.  As long as you follow these steps, you should be able to swing a golf club and hit the ball far.

Any time you go to the golf course you should stretch and warm up first.  This is important because you need to feel relaxed and confident when you play your first round.  So I can get a fell for how fast or slow the greens are.  I practice putting on the courses practice green.  I always make sure I go to the driving range before my round to practice my golf swing.

The first thing you must do is wear proper golf atire and you do not have to dress up unless the course has specific dress code.  What I mean by dress up is wearing a polo shirt and dress pants or shorts.  Always stand behind the ball first and pick a spot where you want the ball to go.  Then take a couple of practice swings before you hit the ball.  Depending on what club you are using, make sure you stand appropriately.  If it is a Fairway Wood or Driver you have your left or right foot turned out just a little bit and make sure your heel is lined up with the ball.  Make a note that if you're right handed the left foot will be aligned with the ball and if you're left handed the right foot will be alligned with the ball.  Just make sure you bend your knees a little bit and swing backwards.  Always keep your head down as you swing.  By this point your club should be at the top of your swing and your weight will now shift from your back foot to your front foot and the finished pose should look like the third picture on the blog.  If it is an Iron you are swinging with, you have the ball lined up in the middle of your stance.  I must remind you to keep your head down and the wedges are the only clubs that does not go all the way back on the swing.  When you get to the top of this swing the club should be vertical.  These are pictures of how to apporach a golf swing and what it should look like.  Stay tuned for my next blog where you will get to see videos of me swinging a golf club.
